Bringing Up Baby

A lot has been going on in our first two weeks home from the hospital with Declan.  I've had my hands full on my first few days alone at home, but it has been a smooth transition so far.  We have had quite a few trips to the pediatrician and hospital to recheck his blood work.  

Our first checkup post partum revealed that Declan had lost 1 pound since birth, we left the hospital and he was down to 7lbs 4 oz, then at the pedi 6lbs 12 oz.  We finally got back up to his birth weight on Friday 14th.  We were pleased to see him gaining weight, at this rate he is probably over 8lbs already! We hope this trend keeps going.

Declan started looking a little jaundice when we left the hospital, so we had to get his bilirubin checked. The first test revealed his number was at 16, so the pedi had us go in the next day to have it recheck to make sure it didn't go higher.  We've been monitoring that and have made several trips to the hospital for rechecks, and the pedi was happy with his most recent check at 12.8 (still not under 10, but at least it's dropping).
