Dear Declan,
Happy Half- Birthday Chipmunk!! This has been such a crazy month full of firsts and fun adventures. Just this morning we woke up and you hadn't sprung any teeth yet and within a few short ours you already cut your first front tooth! No fussing or anything. You started swim lessons, have been out on the boat, enjoyed eating new things and even let mom and dad go on a date. We celebrated Mother's Day and you even got me a day at the spa (ok, so Dad helped) but you were very good for him while I was gone. It's ALWAYS good to remember that a massage is a great gift ;)

Although you love the water at bath time, swimming hasn't been quite as fun so far. Unfortunately the water has been cold and you weren't a big fan. You're a trooper though and when you practiced swimming with Mommy at home you nailed it (of course it was much warmer!) Your favorite new bath toy is your light-up goldfish. Your lesson today went much better at least, the water was warmer and you even brought your own goldfish.
It's a good thing that you've started swim lessons too since you're becoming quite the expert boatsman. You never complain when we have to put on your life vest and enjoy the view from the boat so much. It is fun to watch you take it all in and explore all over. The rocking of the boat often puts you to sleep as well.At home you have certainly taken to rolling around and having fun! You're able to sit up and hold yourself up with excellent balance! If Mommy is there to hold hands you are even able to pull yourself up to stand and balance holding hands. When its time to be on your belly you certainly dont complain like you used to! You're able to roll all around and I wouldn't be surprised if you start to crawl soon. You've gotten very good at sticking your butt up in the air and kicking your legs out trying to get to me or a special toy or even the dogs.

When it comes to the dogs you simply light up whenever you see their faces. You are very good at being gentle with them and pet their heads. They are starting to interact more with you now as well and Tyler has even played with you with one of your toys. He loves giving you kisses all over your face, but you wipe them away. I am sure that the dogs have no idea what's in store for them now that you have started solid foods. You've already tried a few things: banana (frozen is best), avocado (not a big fan), sweet potato soup, butternut squash, and pears. We were going to stick to the BLW (baby led weaning) approach but you were so adamant about the soup that I made that we gave you some purees. You LOVE it! I made several pouches of organic food for you and you love holding the squeeze bags or spoons by yourself. You havent quite mastered the pincer grip for slippery food like the avocado yet, but you're trying! Daddy thought it was silly when you ate your meal in just a bib - but you made such a mess and had so much fun it was worth it.

The exersaucer has become old hat - you can spin around it with ease and reach for every toy now and even know what each one does. While we had our first date night alone, you were so good with your new babysitter. She enjoyed playing with you and reading to you while we were gone. We did miss having you but it was nice that we had some time to ourselves for a bit.
